APRIL TOWER 2008
Surviving Life’s
Challenges
Everyday life is filled with obstacles and challenges: relationships, kids, finances, job stress…it's a jungle out there! Throughout the month of April, we invite you to join us for an encouraging and practical message series on "Surviving the Challenges of Life." Inspired by the hit TV show, Survivor, we’ll look at some of the many challenges that life throws our way…
On April 6, we’ll talk about a subject that everyone has to face at one time or another—rejection. Some people are rejected by family or friends; others are rejected by a spouse or employer. What do you do when someone you care about no longer wants a relationship with you? How do you survive rejection?
On April 13, we’ll learn how to survive while running from God. When we know God wants us to do something and we’ve decided to do
something else, we are, in effect, running from God. With principles from the book of Jonah, we’ll look at how to survive in the midst of this stalemate.
On April 20, we’ll consider how to survive an “unhappy ending.” What do you do when life doesn’t work out the way you had hoped? When all your dreams cave in? When nothing makes sense and God seems to be silent? How do you survive a situation like that?
Finally, on April 27, we’ll look at how one
survives “the waiting game.” Much of our life is spent in simply
waiting—waiting for something to happen. We can’t move on with our lives until
something else transpires, but we’re powerless to make it happen. Sometimes
nothing is more frustrating than simply…waiting.
With insights from God's instruction manual, the Bible, we'll learn how to not only survive situations like these, but to win! We invite you to join us each week and learn to be a survivor!

Thank you to everyone who brought in pantry items for Canton Calvary Mission. A total of 551 packages of ramen noodles were received. For the month of April, we are collecting boxed potatoes. Remember, our Program Committee has designated the third Sunday of each month as the collection day. Thus, we’re asking you to please bring in boxed potatoes on Sunday, April 20th and place them in the ground floor foyer or upstairs at the information table. Thank you!

In April, our focus will be on a “home mission” project—our own upcoming Vacation Bible School. Your gifts will offset the rising cost of this valued program which ministers not only to our own children, but also the children of our community. You can have a part in this work by placing a gift in our missions barrel or designating a pink “special offering” envelope.

Amazing Grace
Grace is like getting two more days to complete an
assignment even though you’ve goofed off for six weeks and missed the deadline.
Grace is getting another chance even though you haven’t earned it or deserved
it.
Grace is God’s unmerited favor, mercy and love, by which we are justified
freely.
—Fritz Ridenour

Dear
Friends,
On
behalf of the family of Jaiseong Pi, the Canton Korean Church, and the
Tuscarwaras District of the United Methodist Church, thank you for your concern
and generosity following the recent parsonage fire. The outpouring of love and support has been
most encouraging. Out of the ashes of
destruction has sprung new life and hope.
Slowly, the family is settling into new surroundings as they rebuild
their lives. Meanwhile, the house will
be made new again and within six months the family will be able to return to
their home.
This
set back, which could have so easily become a huge tragedy of human loss, has
taught many lessons. Certainly the value
of human life holds no price tag. But
this story or near disaster, a gutted house, and a displaced family has caused
us all to give thanks for the grace of God and the goodness of people such as
yourselves. Thank you for your generous
gift of $641 to the Tuscarawas District.
The Pi family is most appreciative and deeply stirred by the outpouring
of love and support.
Thank
you for your kind generosity.
Grace
and peace,
Kurt. E. Landerholm,
District Superintendent

The
United Methodist Women have initiated a special project called PRAYER SHAWL
MINISTRY.
The
mission of the Prayer Shawl Project is to reach out to those in need with a
shawl of prayers and love – to comfort, console and strengthen our family of
faith. We want to remind people of God's promise that He is always with
us.
If
you can knit or crochet you can help in this project! If you are
interested, see me for the patterns. If you don't do either, you can
still participate. Persons wanting to help could make donations to the
prayer shawl ministry and that gift could be used to buy more yarn, gift bags
and tissue paper. You could also design
a card to be attached to the shawls as they are given away, or even deliver
shawls to those in need.
If
you have questions on how you can help, please contact me.
Thank
you,
Marilyn

Faith may languish; creeds may be changed; churches
may be dissolved. But one cannot imagine the time when Jesus will not be the image
of perfection. He can never be superseded. He can never be exceeded.
Religions may come and go, the passing
shapes of eternal instinct, but Jesus will remain the standard of the
conscience and the satisfaction of our needs, whom all seek and in whom all
will
yet meet.
—John Watson

The stars shine over the sea;
The stars have existed for millions of years, Millions of years and a day,
But God and I shall love and live
When the stars have exploded away.
